One for Democracy's mission

Is a healthy democracy important? We think so. And right now, ours needs help. When you give to One For Democracy, we make sure your contribution makes a real difference in protecting the right of each citizen to have their vote counted. Contribute your 1% and join a nationwide community working for one healthy democracy. Whether you give to the overall campaign or select specific organizations, you’ll be registering new voters, mobilizing entire communities and ensuring that every American has access to free and fair elections. And, you’ll see the progress, with regular updates on how your gift is being put to work. That’s one percent, one campaign, for one nation, working together as one.

Is a healthy democracy important? We think so. And right now, ours needs help.

The One For Democracy Action Fund maximizes the impact of your donation to vetted nonprofits with proven achievements in advancing voter registration, protection and mobilization in important swing states and across the country, and that are poised to pivot their approach in response to COVID-19, all in an effort to strengthen our democracy.
The 2016 election was decided by a combined 78,000 votes in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

And, yet...

In the 2016 election, only 56% of voting age adults participated.

Up to 16 million people encountered problems while voting in 2016.

Between 2016-18, over 17 million voters were purged from voting rolls.

More than 60% of adult citizens have never been asked to register to vote.

How you can help

One for Democracy began when a small group of philanthropists came together to pledge 1% of their net worth to foster a stronger democracy.

We invite donors large and small to do one thing - give 1%, or an amount significant to you, and join a nationwide community working for one healthy democracy. That’s one percent, one campaign, for one nation, working together as one.

Your gift will help register new voters, mobilize entire communities and ensure that every American has access to free and fair elections, especially as the voting landscape changes due to COVID-19. And, you’ll see the progress through regular impact updates on how your gift is being put to work.

Your support goes directly to:

Persuade swing voters
Target the 15% of registered voters that are “partisan bystanders” in tipping point states
Engage in a data-driven paid media campaign for the next 3-6 months
Invest in progressive owned media
Secure voter protections
Stop voter suppression, intimidation and misinformation
Use legal actions to protect voting rights
Invest in infrastructure to protect voter access and rights
Register new voters
Expand the vote in tipping point states to include low propensity Democratic supporters
Activate a broad network of community and faith based groups
Engage in “layered” voter contact using proven tools
Support voter mobilization
Build relationships with voters starting now
Use social media, text, email and mail
Provide transportation and access on election day
